Job Description
The Ecological Manager at RES leads and develops a team of scientists and technical staff to support restoration, mitigation, monitoring, and permitting projects, ensuring technical quality and strategic growth across multiple regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a science team across multiple projects and regions, including workload planning, staffing, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Oversee project technical quality for restoration, mitigation, monitoring, and permitting efforts.
- Vet RFPs and new opportunities for technical fit, risk, and capacity; recommend pursuit strategies and assign project staff.
- Provide high-level guidance and strategy throughout all project phases, including proposal development, data collection, analysis, reporting, and closeout.
- Review and enforce QA/QC processes to ensure data, models, and deliverables meet standards.
- Coordinate across regions to share best practices, data collection advancements, and training opportunities.
- Partner with operations, sales, engineering, and construction teams to solve site challenges and deliver integrated solutions.
- Hire, onboard, and mentor team members, supporting their professional growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a natural or physical science or a closely related field.
- 10 years of relevant experience in ecology, environmental science, restoration, or a related discipline, or 8 years of relevant experience with an advanced degree.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple staff and teams, including true people leadership, not just task coordination.
- Firm understanding of the services and project types supported by the team, such as restoration, mitigation, monitoring, and permitting.
- Experience assigning staff and balancing workloads across multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal and external stakeholders.
- Very strong interpersonal skills, including being approachable, credible, and able to build trust at all levels.
- Demonstrated conflict resolution and collaboration skills, particularly around staffing, priorities, and workload issues.
- Strong people leadership and coaching mindset, including mentoring staff, providing constructive feedback, and supporting career growth.
