Job Description
The Scientist V at RES is a senior environmental professional responsible for providing expert scientific leadership in ecological restoration projects, guiding data collection, analysis, and regulatory compliance, while mentoring junior staff and influencing environmental outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical authority in wetlands, stream morphology, soils, water quality, and related areas, guiding internal teams, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Lead and interpret scientific studies, data collection, and analysis to inform ecological restoration projects.
- Mentor junior scientists, review technical reports, and provide coaching on scientific content and communication.
- Collaborate with project managers on staffing, project planning, budgeting, and reporting for environmental projects.
- Represent the organization as a thought leader by preparing for and participating in conferences, panels, and stakeholder meetings.
Requirements
- 15 years of experience in environmental science, or 13 years of experience with an advanced degree
- Bachelor's degree in natural or physical sciences
- Expertise in one or more disciplines such as wetlands, soils, water quality, stream morphology, ecology, biology, or geology
- Deep understanding of regional regulatory requirements and permitting processes
- Strong experience in functional assessments and field lab data analysis
- Advanced knowledge of GIS and environmental mapping
- Proficient in scientific software and field equipment such as YSI meters, GPS, turbidimeters, etc.
- Skilled in project planning, budgeting, staffing, and reporting
