Job Description

The Scientist V at RES is a senior environmental professional responsible for providing expert scientific leadership in ecological restoration projects, guiding data collection, analysis, and regulatory compliance, while mentoring junior staff and influencing environmental outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical authority in wetlands, stream morphology, soils, water quality, and related areas.
  • Guide internal teams, clients, and regulatory agencies with scientific insights.
  • Lead and shape data collection, interpretation, and application across projects and ecosystems.
  • Mentor junior scientists and review technical reports and assessments.
  • Collaborate with project managers on staffing, planning, and project execution.
  • Represent the organization at conferences and in communications with stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 15 years of experience in environmental science, or 13 years of experience with an advanced degree
  • Bachelor's degree in natural or physical sciences
  • Expertise in one or more disciplines such as wetlands, soils, water quality, stream morphology, ecology, biology, or geology
  • Deep understanding of regional regulatory requirements and permitting processes
  • Strong experience in functional assessments and field lab data analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of GIS and environmental mapping
  • Proficient in scientific software and field equipment such as YSI meters, GPS, turbidimeters, etc.
  • Skilled in project planning, budgeting, staffing, and reporting
