Job Description

A hands-on general labor role at a native plant nursery focused on restoration and sustainability, involving tasks such as seed collection, plant care, transplanting, and equipment operation to support ecosystem restoration efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transplant seedlings in the spring
  • Maintain potted plants during summer
  • Collect native seed in the fall
  • Clean and process seed in winter
  • Operate equipment such as trimmers, seed cleaning machines, forklifts, and ATVs
  • Water, weed, and prepare plant orders outdoors
  • Identify native and invasive plant species
  • Assist with seed processing and seed order preparation
  • Support greenhouse transplanting and plant care
  • Participate in field seed collection activities

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Keen interest in plants and working with them in all their forms, from seed to pot
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to walk over uneven surfaces and up and down hills
  • Ability to climb on construction equipment and work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Willingness to learn to operate and maintain various tools and equipment, including trimmers, seed cleaning machines, forklifts, and ATVs, with safety training provided
  • Ability to identify native and invasive plant species, applicable to the assigned state
  • Willingness to obtain a pesticide applicators license in the applicable categories for the assigned state
  • Capable of working outdoors and performing tasks at ground level
  • Ability to read and understand various tasks as assigned and ask questions when needed
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well within a team
  • Experience or applicable knowledge in horticulture, agriculture, or related fields
  • Some supervisory experience (preferred but not mandatory)

Compensation: $19 to $21 per hour
Work schedule: Full-time, year-round
