Job Description
A hands-on environmental restoration technician role involving outdoor work, operating specialized equipment, and implementing ecosystem restoration projects such as stream restoration, invasive species management, and planting, with opportunities for skill development and certification in habitat management techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate specialized equipment such as trucks, UTVs, brush cutters, augers, and chainsaws in outdoor restoration projects
- Use GPS mapping systems to navigate and document work sites
- Identify native and invasive plant species to guide restoration efforts
- Apply herbicides to manage invasive species and support ecosystem balance
- Participate in planting and seeding activities to restore habitats
- Perform basic equipment maintenance and report repair needs
- Assist in implementing invasive species management programs
- Contribute to habitat management techniques, including prescribed burns (if certified)
Requirements
- High School degree or equivalent
- Reliable means of transportation to get to the field office
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to walk over uneven surfaces and up and down hills
- Ability to climb on construction equipment
- Willingness to work outdoors and in inclement weather
- Keen interest in natural resources and outdoors
- One year of work experience in ecological restoration
- Ability to read and understand project plans, details, and specifications
- Commercial Pesticide Technician Apprentice License in the applicable categories for the assigned state
- Knowledge of native and invasive plant species applicable to the assigned state
- One year of experience mixing and applying herbicides for managing invasive species
- One year of experience performing planting and seeding techniques
