Job Description
The Restoration Operator I is responsible for implementing ecological restoration activities such as habitat restoration, invasive species control, and site maintenance using specialized equipment, primarily outdoors, to help restore wetlands, streams, and natural landscapes while working as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement field-level restoration activities to restore wetlands, streams, and habitats
- Operate specialized equipment such as excavators, skid steers, tractors, and herbicide application tools
- Perform invasive species control, native species protection, and site clearing
- Conduct maintenance and mowing of solar fields and other restoration sites
- Use mapping tools to track and document field progress
- Troubleshoot and service field equipment and machinery
- Assist with planting, seeding, erosion control, and sediment management
- Load and transport materials to and from nurseries and project sites
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 1 year of experience in ecological restoration, landscaping, agriculture, or related work
- Experience with the repair and maintenance of small engines and equipment
- Ability to understand the project plans, details, and specifications
- Valid Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain one (state-specific)
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, walk on uneven ground, and climb onto construction equipment
- Mid-level ability to troubleshoot and diagnose field equipment issues, including knowledge of auto, truck, and construction equipment maintenance schedules, fluid requirements, and basic diagnostic processes
