Job Description

The Systems Engineer, Energy Storage at Redwood Materials is responsible for leading the design, development, and integration of energy storage systems, ensuring performance, safety, and compliance through system modeling, requirements management, and cross-disciplinary collaboration in a fast-paced startup environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate energy storage systems.
  • Define system requirements and evaluate system architectures.
  • Perform modeling, simulation, and testing to validate system performance.
  • Establish interface definitions across mechanical, electrical, and software components.
  • Optimize system architecture for cost, efficiency, energy density, and availability.
  • Ensure system safety and reliability through risk assessments and hazard analyses.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field and 5 years of design engineering or system engineering experience.
  • Excellent first-principles physics understanding of electrical and mechanical systems, power delivery, energy transformation, and basic thermal mechanics.
  • Experience with power electronics product development.
  • Proficiency in system modeling tools such as Python or Matlab.
  • Experience with requirement management tools such as Doors, Jama, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear and testable engineering requirements.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully in accordance with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time.
  • Essential physical requirements such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
  • Occasional work weekends, nights, or being on-call as a regular part of the job.
  • Occasional travel requirements.

Benefits & Perks

Salary range: $127,500 - $248,500 USD
Full-time position
