The Energy Economics Intern supports Redwood Materials' Battery Energy Storage System projects by managing project development, coordinating with stakeholders, and developing software tools to facilitate project tracking and market participation, combining project management and technical problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
Track and advance utility-scale BESS projects through the development pipeline, coordinating with stakeholders to maintain schedules and resolve issues
Support due diligence and project evaluation processes, including data review, site visits, and technical screening
Maintain project tracking systems and development milestone schedules
Develop sales and engineering tools to support project management, sizing, and technical documentation
Build tools to facilitate project transition into ERCOT market participation, including QSE onboarding, registration, testing coordination, and bid setup
Requirements
Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Environmental Science, or a related field; graduate students are preferred.
Proficiency in Python, JavaScript, or similar programming languages, with experience building scripts, tools, or applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear summaries for internal and external audiences.
Familiarity with electricity markets, grid operations, Investment Tax Credit (ITC) structuring, and related incentive programs.
Ability to perform office work for extended periods, including use of a computer and telephone.
Ability to travel to project sites, which may include outdoor environments with exposure to variable weather conditions and uneven terrain.
Up to 20% travel required for project site visits, developer meetings, and industry events.
This is a full-time position with compensation commensurate with experience.
