Job Description
This role involves leading the development of a full-stack AI web application focused on geospatial imagery, creating intuitive user interfaces, visualizations, and integrating AI models to enable users to analyze satellite data for high-stakes applications such as forensics and environmental monitoring.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and develop the user interface and experience for the AI-powered web application
- Collaborate with AI research teams to translate complex analytical results into visual, actionable insights
- Develop interactive map and chat layouts that cater to both novices and GIS experts
- Integrate branding, data badges, and citations to verify AI-generated information
- Create exportable visualizations such as before-and-after graphics, charts, and animations
- Ensure high performance and seamless loading of satellite imagery and map transitions
- Implement real-time AI interactions through frontend-backend communication patterns like web sockets
Requirements
- Four years of experience as a Full Stack or Frontend Engineer, with expertise in modern frameworks like React or Vue.
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or an equivalent field.
- Proficiency with mapping libraries such as Mapbox GL JS or Leaflet.
- Experience building streaming UI/UX for Large Language Models (LLMs) and LLM chat interfaces into production-grade web applications.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and deploying applications in a cloud environment.
- Ability to develop a side-by-side map and chat layout that lowers the barrier to entry for novices while providing deep analytics for GIS experts.
- Experience integrating visible branding, data badges, and clickable citations to verify that AI-generated answers are grounded in real Planet imagery.
- Ability to create exportable before and after graphics, charts, and time-series animations that translate AI insights into actionable evidence.
- Ensure that slippy map transitions and high-resolution satellite imagery loading remain performant and seamless, even under high user demand.
- Engineer sophisticated frontend-backend communication patterns, e.g., through use of web sockets, to manage high-latency AI operations.
- Implement real-time agent status updates, streaming text responses, and progressive data rendering to ensure UI remains responsive and transparent.
- Manage state for multi-modal conversations within the application.
- Deep empathy for UI/UX principles, focused on democratizing access to complex satellite data for non-technical users.

Salary range: $144,500 - $180,600 USD (for San Francisco location)
