The Mechanical Engineering Lead at Redwood Materials is responsible for designing and developing large-scale renewable energy products, focusing on mechanical components, thermal management, and system integration, while leading a team as the company scales its engineering efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop mechanical components and systems for large-scale renewable energy products, including thermal management, enclosures, and structural integration.
Perform mechanical analysis such as CFD and FEA to validate designs and ensure performance under real-world conditions.
Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to ensure seamless mechanical integration into overall system architecture.
Select materials and components in coordination with suppliers to ensure cost-effective, high-quality solutions.
Manage mechanical engineering projects to meet goals and deadlines.
Lead and build a mechanical engineering team as the project scales, including recruiting, mentoring, and managing team members.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus in batteries, renewable energy systems, or similar large-scale projects
Proven track record as a senior mechanical engineer, with hands-on design, prototyping, and testing experience in building products at scale
Proficiency in CAD software, e.g., SolidWorks, and analysis tools such as CFD, FEA, etc.
Experience in the development of tools, infrastructure, and design practices for a growing team
Ability to perform mechanical analysis including CFD, FEA, thermal analysis, etc., to validate designs and ensure performance under real-world conditions
Experience selecting materials and components, working closely with suppliers and vendors to ensure cost-effective, high-quality solutions
Experience managing engineering projects in a hands-on capacity to deliver on project goals and timelines
Ability to lead and execute the mechanical design and development of large-scale renewable energy solutions from concept to deployment, including thermal management, structural design, packaging integration of power electronics, and integration with grid infrastructure
Ability to act as the primary mechanical engineering expert, driving innovation and solving technical challenges at a large scale
Experience collaborating with electrical and systems engineers to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems into overall system architecture
Experience recruiting, mentoring, and managing a high-performance mechanical engineering team as the project scales
Self-motivated and able to manage work in a startup environment, balancing multiple priorities and deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with all levels of the organization and present to internal and external executives
