The Director of Construction at Redwood Materials oversees the end-to-end construction of battery materials and energy storage projects, managing field operations, contractor relationships, safety, scheduling, and compliance to ensure successful project delivery across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee end-to-end construction across multiple campuses and energy projects.
Lead preconstruction activities including bidding, leveling, and awarding contracts.
Manage field operations, site logistics, and schedule adherence across sites.
Build and mentor internal construction team, including superintendents, project managers, and engineers.
Act as the primary representative for field construction, enforcing safety, QA/QC, and compliance standards.
Develop and maintain project schedules, monitor budgets, and control costs.
Identify and mitigate construction risks, ensuring regulatory and licensing compliance.
Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and operations teams during design and execution phases.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in construction management, Engineering, Architecture, or related technical discipline
15 years of construction leadership experience, with a mix of industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects
Direct experience as an Owner’s Representative or in a self-perform General Contractor (GC) model, including project management and contractor oversight
Experience in all contracting methods such as lump sum, GMP, cost plus, unit price construction management, and fee-based construction
Understanding of legal aspects and implications of contractual language
Proven experience in bidding, leveling, and awarding contractor scopes for major capital programs
Expertise across civil, structural, architectural, MEPF, and energy systems, including site utilities and balance of plant
Thorough knowledge of the impact caused by multiple changes in design, engineering, or construction phases and how they impact cost, schedule, construction management, and operations
Knowledge of when and how to address issues related to design gaps, constructability, safety, or sequencing conflicts with customers
Demonstrated leadership of multi-state execution teams, including remote field staff and traveling superintendents
Familiarity with licensing requirements, lien laws, inspection readiness, and change management workflows
Strong command of construction financials, including pay applications, forecasting, cost control, and contingency planning
Field-level expertise using Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera MS Project, and collaborative tools
Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including lifting up to 100 lbs, bending, lifting objects over 50 lbs, walking stairs with weight, and working in various environments
Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance and work some weekends or be on-call as required
