Job Description
The Director of Project Development leads and mentors a team in developing community solar and utility-scale solar projects across the U.S., overseeing project permitting, land acquisition, and regulatory compliance to ensure successful project execution and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the Project Development team to drive community solar and utility-scale solar projects toward Notice to Proceed (NTP).
- Review developer and third-party consultant assignments to optimize resource utilization.
- Ensure high-quality permit application materials are submitted to facilitate permitting success.
- Review third-party consultant agreements to maintain scope of work standards and quality.
- Coordinate with legal, environmental, impact, and technical teams to resolve development roadblocks.
- Work with senior leadership to set NTP goals and development budgets for a steady project pipeline.
- Provide strategic recommendations to improve project development success.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Engineering, or a related field
- 10 years of experience in renewable energy project development, with a focus on permitting, land acquisition, and regulatory compliance
- Proven experience leading a regional development team
- Advanced understanding of distribution and transmission interconnection processes
- Advanced understanding of solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) equipment and project construction processes
- Proven experience negotiating contracts including land options, easements, and development service agreements
- Experience with brownfield and landfill solar development
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to travel as required for site visits, landowner meetings, and engagement with regulatory agencies
