Job Description
The Shop Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, repairing, and recharging fire extinguishers and compressed gas cylinders to ensure compliance with safety regulations, while maintaining proper documentation and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform annual and 6-year inspections, repairs, recharges, and hydrotesting of fire extinguishers and compressed gas cylinders
- Record and document inspections, repairs, discrepancies, and recommendations
- Add dry chemical, repressurize cylinders, and perform cylinder conversions and repairs
- Operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks and maintain organized work areas
- Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, DOT, EPA, OSHA, and company safety regulations
- Maintain and calibrate computerized cylinder testing equipment and record test results
- Inspect, scrap, and paint cylinders, and verify cylinder expiration dates and DOT numbers
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid state issued driver s license with acceptable driving record.
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to safety or health of employees or others.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, etc.
- Possess strong mechanical, electrical, and technical aptitude.
- Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, and adapt to change in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Able to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and interact professionally with customers, coworkers, and management.
- Ability to comply with safety requirements of the position and actively promote safe work practices.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Proper business English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to calculate basic math including fractions, percentages, and decimals.
- Knowledge and ability to understand and operate basic computer functions, operating systems, and software applications such as Windows, Word, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Apple IOS, and Android, as well as industry-specific devices and software.
- Able to constantly lift and carry up to 25-75 pounds unassisted.
- Able to occasionally move lifts with assistance or lifting device weighing 76-110 pounds.
- Able to constantly lift and carry items such as toolboxes, tools, equipment, cylinders, and parts.
- Ability to push or pull up to 25-75 pounds frequently.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and stretching.
- Ability to constantly repeat motions involving wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools constantly.
- Able to occasionally remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
- Able to frequently make mathematical calculations.
- Able to frequently dial, hear, and respond to telephone calls.
- Able to constantly communicate with others to exchange information.
- Able to constantly see and respond to dangerous situations.
- Able to constantly adjust focus and have close vision.
- Able to work with interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress.
- Able to frequently drive from one worksite to another.
- Work environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, varying climate temperature conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and moderate noise levels.
- Shift hours are Monday through Friday, 7am to 4pm, with possible overtime and varying hours due to workload.
- Travel may be required during the workday between worksites.
- Must be willing to make occasional, local deliveries based on operational needs.
