Job Description
The Senior Grid Reliability Engineer Leader will oversee the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of Battery Energy Storage System assets, analyzing performance data, ensuring regulatory adherence, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize asset performance and grid reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain programs to ensure safe operations, optimized performance, and regulatory compliance of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets.
- Monitor, analyze, and communicate system performance data to identify trends, anomalies, and potential issues affecting asset performance and compliance.
- Conduct operational assessments and risk analyses to identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement in asset operations.
- Perform root cause analyses of system failures or disturbances and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering, commercial, vendor, and industry groups to develop solutions that enhance asset performance and grid reliability.
- Lead or participate in projects related to asset management, market trading, technology integration, and operations.
- Partner with field and asset managers to support troubleshooting, testing, and issue resolution to ensure reliability and compliance.
- Track and implement controls to support compliance with NERC, PPA, RTO, ISO, and other regulatory standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in reliability engineering, power system analysis, asset management, or a related field in the electric utility industry, with a preference for experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and requirements for GO and GOP functions, ISO Independent System Operators, and Utility experience.
- Experience in the design, operation, monitoring, and maintenance of power system assets, including grid operation, energy management, and performance optimization.
- Experience in substation design, equipment, and maintenance is a plus.
- Understanding of energy markets, locational marginal price formation, and the various elements that contribute to price formation is preferred.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data to drive informed decision-making.
- Ability to explain complex compliance requirements and evidence in a simplified manner to internal management and external parties.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a cross-functional environment with both technical and non-technical team members who are geographically dispersed.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong presentation and written communication skills.
- Relevant experience in programming and data management, with working knowledge of SQL, GRC tools, and tracking spreadsheets is a plus.
- Ability to connect databases to modeling tools using SQL and Power BI.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to create automation scripts in Python, PowerShell, or similar languages is a plus.
- Experience using Seeq analysis tool is a plus.
