Job Description
The Development Manager - APAC is responsible for leading the development of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System projects in Australia, overseeing activities from early development to readiness for construction, ensuring timely approvals, grid connections, and risk management while coordinating internal teams and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the development of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects from early development to Ready to Build (RTB) stage.
- Coordinate planning approvals, grid connection, and risk management across multiple Australian states.
- Serve as the project owner during the development phase, working with internal teams and external consultants.
- Monitor and ensure progress of development activities in line with project milestones and timelines.
- Identify and proactively address issues related to approvals, grid interface, and development risks.
- Manage development budgets, oversee consultant performance, and implement governance and stage-gate controls.
- Operate with high autonomy to optimize development processes and ensure project execution efficiency.
Requirements
- The candidate must have experience acting as the project owner during the development phase of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, with a focus on progressing projects from early development through to Ready to Build (RTB).
- The candidate must be responsible for driving development outcomes across planning approvals, grid connection, and development risk management across a multi-state Australian portfolio.
- The candidate must have the ability to coordinate internal expertise and external advisors, maintaining clear visibility of risks and timelines, and ensuring development activities progress in line with agreed project milestones.
- The candidate must operate with a high degree of autonomy, proactively identifying issues, managing approvals and grid interface risk, and optimizing development processes as required.
- The candidate must have ownership of development budgets, oversight of consultant performance, and implementation of governance, templates, and stage-gate controls to support consistent project execution.
- The candidate must have experience in managing approvals timelines and development risk, with a strong emphasis on accountability for these areas.
- The candidate must have the ability to work closely with Commercial, Grid, Engineering, Finance, EPC, and external consultants and development partners during the project development phase.
- The candidate must have at least 3 years of experience in project development, energy infrastructure, or a related field involving renewable energy projects.
- The candidate must have a proven track record of managing development activities for energy projects, including risk management and stakeholder coordination.
- The candidate must demonstrate strong organizational skills to maintain visibility of project risks, timelines, and milestones.
- The candidate must be able to operate independently with minimal supervision, proactively identifying issues and implementing process improvements.
- The candidate must have experience with governance frameworks, templates, and stage-gate processes relevant to project development.
- The candidate must be willing and able to work remotely, as the role is LI-remote.
