Job Description
The Mechanical Engineering team at Planet is seeking a Structural Analyst to perform structural analysis and support the design, testing, and validation of spacecraft subsystems for Earth-imaging satellites, working closely with cross-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform structural analysis of spacecraft subsystems using finite element analysis and hand calculations
- Drive documentation and presentation of design trade studies and models
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure structural requirements are met
- Manage vendors to ensure components meet performance and survival criteria
- Support development of environmental requirements and test planning for spacecraft components
- Conduct testing, hardware in-the-loop analysis, and model validation for spacecraft hardware
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering or science degree
- 4 years of structural analysis experience in aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, or related fields
- Experience with structural analysis methods including classical hand calculations and analysis of mechanical joints such as bolted joints and bonded joints
- Experience using Finite Element Software Solvers, with NASTRAN preferred
- Proficiency in generating high-quality Finite Element Models (FEMs)
- Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) software
- Experience setting up models and analyzing components for static and modal analysis
- Excellent understanding of strength of materials and common structural failure modes
- Ability to be self-motivated and responsible while working in a highly dynamic environment
- Outstanding verbal and visual communication skills
- Application to access export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls

Salary range: $128,400 - $160,500 USD (for San Francisco location)
