Job Description
The Space Systems Engineer will support satellite operations by developing and maintaining software, analyzing data, troubleshooting anomalies, and deploying updates to optimize the performance of Planet's Earth Observation satellite constellation.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily satellite operations, analyze data, and resolve anomalies
- Develop, test, and deploy software for satellite systems and on-orbit experiments
- Perform fleet checks, monitor system health, and support on-call shifts
- Create scripts and operational procedures to optimize satellite performance
- Analyze satellite data to identify issues and propose solutions
- Drive improvements in fleet capacity and productivity through process enhancements
- Provide operational insights and feedback to engineering teams based on satellite performance
- Shape operational strategies for next-generation spacecraft
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience in software development or related fields
- Experience in software development, particularly in Python or similar languages
- Familiarity with the space environment and its challenges
- Data-driven mindset with experience in statistical analysis
- Proactive approach to engineering and problem-solving
- Effective interpersonal and collaboration skills within a technical team
- Must have the ability to access export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls

Salary range: 115,800 - 142,700 USD (for San Francisco, may vary by location and experience)
