Job Description
A Software Engineer in Platform Operations is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the core cloud infrastructure that enables reliable deployment and scaling of services, focusing on security, scalability, and operational efficiency to support Planet's satellite data platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate core Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions for secure and scalable platform services
- Manage cloud-based infrastructure services, including Kubernetes clusters and related tooling
- Enhance and maintain observability for platform services using tools like Grafana
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve the developer experience of managed infrastructure
- Lead platform modernization initiatives, including migrating from legacy tools to new solutions
Requirements
- 4 years of experience in a Platform Engineering, System Administration, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) role.
- Deep understanding of Kubernetes, underlying compute systems, and Linux.
- Working knowledge of public clouds, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP) or Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitLab and ArgoCD.
- Experience with Configuration Management tools such as Terraform and Crossplane, and knowledge of GitOps principles.
- Ability to use an operational mindset and troubleshooting skills for complex production environments.
- Experience building services in programming languages such as Go and Python using tools like Git, Docker, and CI/CD workflows.
- Experience building services that leverage cloud-based infrastructure and tooling such as AWS or GCP.
- Ability to collaborate and clearly communicate designs and decisions verbally and in writing.
