Job Description
The role involves developing and maintaining security tools and infrastructure for Planet's satellite constellation, focusing on protecting space and ground systems through embedded software security practices and collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom security tools to protect satellite and ground systems
- Perform security-focused code reviews on mission-critical flight and ground software
- Maintain and optimize core security infrastructure, including Hardware Security Modules (HSMs)
- Configure and test launch-side equipment and support key provisioning for satellite deployments
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of professional experience in Software Engineering, Embedded Systems, or Electrical Engineering.
- Strong grasp of embedded systems and a desire to apply that knowledge to the security domain.
- Proficiency in programming in C for hardware and Python for tooling.
- Ability to translate complex technical risks into actionable insights for satellite operators and project managers.
- Experience with version control systems such as Git, SVN, or similar workflows.
- Access to export-controlled information and the ability to access all applicable export-controlled information without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls.
