Job Description
The Operations Research Engineer will develop software and tools for optimal scheduling and mission planning of Planet's satellite constellation, working on complex aerospace problems to improve satellite operations and enable future missions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and architect software solutions for optimal satellite tasking and mission planning.
- Work on complex applied mathematics problems related to orbital mechanics and space mission operations.
- Develop and lead the automation tools for constellation-level satellite management.
- Contribute to improving the operations and efficiency of existing satellite fleets and future missions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, aerospace engineering, physics or related technical field
- 6 years of total relevant experience in software development or related fields
- Software development experience in C and Python
- Experience maintaining peer-reviewed code, attention to quality including automated testing, and continuous integration and deployment
- Familiarity with orbital mechanics and space mission operations
- Ability to carry out first-principles analysis and operationalize MVP solutions
- Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
- Application to access export-controlled information, with the ability to do so without additional export licensing being required by the Bureau of Industry and Security and/or the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls
