Job Description
The Optical Technician will perform ground-based optical payload testing, including assembly, calibration, troubleshooting, and data analysis of telescopes and camera systems for satellite constellations, supporting manufacturing and system development efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute ground-based optical payload testing in collaboration with satellite manufacturing and engineering teams
- Test, develop, troubleshoot, and calibrate telescopes and camera assemblies for satellite constellations
- Assemble and set up opto-mechanical and electrical test fixtures and setups
- Perform optical alignment, image quality assessment, and radiometric performance testing
- Develop and maintain automated and repeatable testing procedures
- Record, analyze, and report test data and results
- Maintain and troubleshoot optical test equipment and stations
- Support project development by working closely with engineering teams
Requirements
- Four years of experience working with optics and optical assemblies.
- Excellent knowledge of imaging optics testing, telescopes, and cameras.
- Good understanding of optical alignment, image quality metrics, camera calibration, and radiometry.
- Experience with radiometric and MTF calculations, and the use of interferometers, wavefront sensors, monochromators, collimators, power meters, light sources, and integrating spheres.
- Experience with mechanical tools and fixtures.
- Excellent debugging skills for opto-mechanical and electrical systems.
- Ability to execute and develop complex, detailed test procedures.
- Familiarity with proper laboratory safety and manufacturing best practices in a cleanroom environment.
- Impeccable organization skills.
- Experience working with cross-functional technical engineering teams.
- Demonstrated ability to perform basic software development and/or lab automation using Python, microcontrollers, etc.
- Educational background in Optical Engineering or relevant experience; a BS degree is preferred.
- Experience in recording detailed and accurate test descriptions and data summaries.
- Advanced knowledge of opto-mechanical testing of telescopes, focal planes, cameras, and cable harness assemblies.
- Experience bonding optics with RTV epoxy.
- Experience collecting large amounts of data, data storage, and data manipulation.
- Ability to contribute effectively in a high-pressure, dynamic work environment.
- Competency in mechanical assemblies, soldering PCBs, and reading electrical drawings and schematics.
- Ability to access export-controlled information without additional export licensing, as required by EAR regulations.

US base salary range of 114,200 - 142,700 USD (compensation)
