Job Description

The role involves developing and managing sales pipelines to sell Planet's geospatial imagery solutions to government intelligence, defense, and national security clients in Japan, including navigating procurement processes, closing deals, and building strong customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage the sales pipeline to achieve or exceed sales targets.
  • Identify, qualify, negotiate, and close sales deals with government and defense customers.
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as marketing, pre-sales, and customer success to support sales activities and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Manage government procurement processes and contractual negotiations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government agencies and strategic partners.
  • Provide product demonstrations and formulate business proposals tailored to customer needs.
  • Accurately forecast sales opportunities and maintain pipeline hygiene using CRM tools.
  • Develop strategic opportunities and grow the customer base within the government sector.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or commensurate professional experience
  • Experience successfully finding and winning business with Government customers, such as the Military of Defense, an Intelligence account, or similar
  • Excellent relationships across Japanese Government and the partner ecosystem
  • 6 years of related experience in Enterprise Solution Sales required along with a successful track record
  • 6 years of experience selling to government customers, including understanding the nuances of Government sales cycles and how to navigate through the process
  • Experience with Salesforce.com or a similar CRM System
  • Fluent in English, the working language of the company, and Japanese
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the year
  • Experience in developing and managing a sales pipeline to achieve or exceed sales targets and goals
  • Ability to identify, qualify, negotiate, and close large and medium-size deals
  • Ability to forecast accurately when managing the incoming pipeline of opportunities
  • Ability to source, sell, co-sell, and close deals, with familiarity of carrying quota and closing
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams including sales, marketing, business development, pre-sales solution architects, and customer success teams
  • Ability to manage the contracting and Government procurement process
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently under tight deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making skills
  • Deep understanding of the value of commercial Earth Observation imagery in supporting the work of the Defense and Intelligence users
  • Active Armed Forces Reserve or veteran as a relevant intelligence professional (considered a plus)
