The Solution Engineer serves as a technical consultant and project leader, designing and supporting advanced automation solutions across various industries, while providing pre-sales support, technical expertise, and industry-specific system development.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and support advanced automation solutions integrating complex technical products with third-party components.
Develop expertise in industry technology, attain certifications, and mentor junior staff and colleagues.
Provide technical support during pre-sales activities, including developing solution concepts and conducting demonstrations.
Lead proof of concept or pilot applications and develop test plans to validate solutions.
Support project management and provide on-site installation start-up and support.
Research and communicate data on emerging products and technologies to inform product development.
Support sales efforts by providing technical expertise to OEMs, end-users, and system integrators.
Develop and deliver technical presentations, seminars, and industry involvement to position the company as a technology leader.
Maintain expert knowledge of industrial networking, communication technologies, and Phoenix Contact products.
Requirements
Minimum Associate's Technical Degree or equivalent experience; Bachelor’s degree in engineering or technical focus preferred.
Minimum of 4 years industrial automation experience.
Industry-specific controls system design and programming experience.
Motivated self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Ability to set priorities and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
Ability to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities to meet business goals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Effective interpersonal skills with comfort in delivering group presentations.
Minimum of 35% travel requirement, including 2-5 overseas trips.
Must be able to lift 60 pounds.
Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, up to 2-4 hours at a time.
Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time, up to 4 hours at a time.
Must be able to travel in vehicles, automobiles, trains, and planes for up to 10 hours.
Must be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
Must comply with company dress code guidelines.
Must demonstrate punctuality and attendance in accordance with company policies.
Must provide timely reporting of expenses.
Must have the ability to develop an expert understanding of industrial networking and communication technologies, specifically expertise in Industrial Ethernet Protocols Profinet, Ethernet IP, and Modbus TCP.
Must develop and maintain an expert working knowledge of all Phoenix Contact industrial products, with emphasis on IEC 61131 programming, industrial Ethernet wired and wireless, and networked I/O.
Must participate in industry trade events and conferences to maintain knowledge proficiency, including active participation in presenting Phoenix Contact case studies.
Must be able to independently qualify and gather input for designs through functional specification review or by direct customer interaction.
Must develop and implement test plans to validate proposed solutions.
Must provide applied solution design and engineering support to the Control and Industry Solutions team.
Must develop and serve as technical lead on proof of concept or pilot applications.
Must support the sales effort of Phoenix Contact’s complex technical products at OEM, end-user, and system integrator accounts within primary and supported market segments.
Must support Phoenix Contact field personnel and channel partners in technical aspects related to the sale of systems and solutions.
Must develop and conduct control solution presentations and technology seminars to targeted audiences.
Must develop training programs and training material to support complex control system projects.
Must research and understand existing competitive and emerging products and technologies, and document data supporting the development of new products to meet customer requirements.
Must support project management as required and advise project teams on technical issues throughout the project lifecycle.
Must develop, implement, and provide on-site installation start-up support.
Must provide pre-sales technical support and develop a concept framework based on customer requirements and industry standards and practices.
Must develop and serve as technical lead on proof of concept or pilot applications.
Must develop advanced system testing and troubleshooting processes utilizing spectrum analyzers, storage scopes, power monitors, volt meters, and other required test equipment.
Must interpret and translate customer specifications into functional concepts and deliver tailored application solutions.
Must support the sales effort of Phoenix Contact’s complex technical products when positioned and sold as industry solutions at OEM, end-user, and system integrator focused accounts.
Must position Phoenix Contact as a technology leader through active involvement in industry-related technical associations.
Must develop an expert understanding of industrial networking and communication technologies, specifically expertise in Industrial Ethernet Protocols Profinet, Ethernet IP, and Modbus TCP.
Must maintain knowledge proficiency through continued participation in industry trade events and conferences, including presenting Phoenix Contact case studies.
