The Design Engineer Control Panels is responsible for designing and documenting control cabinet systems, selecting components, ensuring regulatory compliance, creating mechanical and electrical drawings, and supporting manufacturing and testing processes in a hybrid work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design control panels, including component selection, schematic creation, and enclosure modifications
Perform environmental, thermal, and heat calculations to ensure design compliance
Create mechanical and electrical drawings, assembly, and BOM documentation
Develop testing procedures and fixtures for product validation
Coordinate design reviews with planning, manufacturing, and purchasing teams
Maintain and update product drawings, BOMs, and component data in PDM/PLM systems
Develop quotations, including labor estimation and packaging specifications
Ensure designs meet regulatory standards such as UL508A and ISO 9001 requirements
Specify packaging to prevent shipping damage and select appropriate control cabinet enclosures
Perform product change management and ongoing design modifications
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Must be knowledgeable in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering
CAD experience required, specifically AutoCAD or similar software
Experience with UL508A preferred
EPLAN or AutoCAD electrical experience preferred
3D Modeling experience preferred
Knowledge of GD T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is a plus
Experience with Microsoft Office Applications Word and Excel
Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
Must be able to ride in a car for 6 hours at a time
Must be able to travel by air
Must be able to communicate in English, both written and verbal
Must be eligible to receive a US passport
Must be able to lift 25 lbs
Regular and on-time attendance is required
Must follow all corporate processes and procedures in an ISO 9001 environment
Must act as a member of project teams
Must perform control panel design tasks including component selection, schematic creation, enclosure modifications, mechanical component design, heat calculations, and product costing
Must create and modify electrical and mechanical drawings, BOMs, and product changes
Must coordinate design reviews between planning, manufacturing, and purchasing
Must specify packaging to eliminate shipping damage
Must create assembly and mechanical drawings, testing procedures, and fixtures
Must perform ongoing change maintenance and product BOM updates
Must be able to perform environmental and thermal analysis, power and I/O wiring
Must ensure designs meet regulatory standards, including UL508A
Must develop testing procedures and fixtures for products
