The Building Automation Engineer is responsible for managing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining building automation systems related to HVAC, lighting, and access control to optimize energy efficiency, ensure operational reliability, and support sustainability goals within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and maintain building automation systems (BAS) including HVAC, lighting, and access control.
Design, install, troubleshoot, and repair BAS control devices, fixtures, and panels.
Program and configure control sequences to enhance energy efficiency and system reliability.
Respond to system alarms and troubleshoot issues remotely or on-site to minimize downtime.
Optimize climate control schedules to reduce utility costs and support sustainability goals.
Track, analyze, and report energy consumption data for cost savings and compliance.
Develop and implement energy optimization strategies across facilities.
Manage remote facility controls for emergency response and operational continuity.
Document system changes, maintenance activities, and configurations for compliance.
Coordinate with facilities, vendors, and contractors for repairs, upgrades, and system integration.
Ensure cybersecurity measures are in place for BAS and related systems.
Requirements
B.S Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or other technical degree
3-5 years minimum work experience with Building Automation Systems
2-4 years working in Facilities Management environment
Experience with Siemens Desigo and/or Niagara AX systems preferred
Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, electrical and electronic engineering as it applies to HVAC controls
Strong knowledge of network types and protocols
Ability to perform basic BAS programming functions, including libraries, Java, and IEC61131 preferred
Demonstrates extensive knowledge with HVAC and electrical systems
Ability to read electrical one-line drawings, schematics, and mechanical drawings/specifications
Good decision-making and project management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Able to work under pressure and prioritize multiple tasks
Develops team members through mentoring and coaching in complex subjects
Strong communication skills
Strong self-motivation
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
Must be able to lift 60 pounds
Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and overtime when necessary
Must be able to handle extreme temperatures
Must speak and understand English to communicate verbally and in writing
Must have above average math and statistical analytical skills
