Job Description
A junior lawyer role supporting renewable energy projects in Japan, focusing on legal due diligence, negotiations, project monitoring, and corporate secretarial duties within a dynamic, multinational team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support regional utility-scale and commercial industrial renewable energy projects, including land and permitting due diligence
- Manage and negotiate asset and share acquisitions using standard documentation
- Monitor ongoing projects and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Perform general company secretarial duties and obtain necessary approvals
- Draft, review, and translate legal documents, including NDAs and client onboarding materials
Requirements
- Native Japanese speaker
- Bilingual in English, able to translate legal documents and communicate with English-speaking team members
- Qualified in Japanese law or a common law jurisdiction with knowledge of Japanese law
- Experience working in a multinational in-house legal team or with foreign clients in a domestic or international law firm
- Experience and knowledge of land deals (preferred)
- Understanding of investment schemes such as Silent Partnership and Limited Partnership (preferred)
- Ability to work in a small, dynamic, and scaling team
