The Senior Electrical Engineer will design and develop high-reliability electronic hardware for ocean energy systems, including power electronics, energy storage, and control systems, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure system performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities
Design high-reliability electronic hardware, including load engagement systems, energy storage batteries, battery management systems, supercapacitor banks, and power electronics circuit cards.
Translate system requirements into detailed circuit designs, including schematic and PCB layout, component selection, and hardware packaging.
Test and verify hardware in laboratory environments, including system integration and validation against thermal, mechanical, and electrical limits.
Develop and implement unit and integration testing processes to ensure hardware reliability and performance.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary engineering teams to support design, testing, and deployment activities.
Prepare safety and engineering documentation, and train technicians on hardware operation and testing.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical engineering
Minimum of 8 years relevant working experience in electrical engineering
Extensive design experience including energy storage systems, from-scratch DC-DC converters, and digital and mixed-signal electronics design, including ADC and DAC use
Working knowledge of filtering, EMI EMC compliance, grounding and shielding, thermal management, etc.
A background in both analog and digital design
Excellent fundamental and comprehensive knowledge of electrical engineering concepts related to circuit design, calibration, and testing of mixed signal systems
Basic understanding of switch mode power electronics and electrothermal design concepts
Knowledge of craftsmanship skills involved in electronics construction, such as PCB creation, circuit card assembly, soldering, etc.
Understanding of the utility and applicability of hardware development processes
Comprehensive understanding of test equipment like oscilloscopes, signal generators, differential probes, multimeters, bench supplies, electronic loads, etc.
Ability to test and verify the designed hardware in a lab environment, including building and integrating multiple systems, and transferring test requirements to test engineering for large-scale manufacturing
Experience creating unit and integration test processes to ensure design validity and reliability, including exercising prototypes past their thermal, mechanical, and electrical limits to understand failure modes
Ability to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary engineering teams
Ability to prepare supporting safety and engineering documentation for designs
Willingness to be responsible for the training and safety of technicians who operate or test the hardware
