Job Description
The Facilities Engineer is responsible for maintaining and improving the performance, reliability, and safety of building infrastructure and industrial equipment in a fast-paced, multi-environment setting, supporting the company's mission to harness ocean energy through hands-on systems management, project oversight, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and ensure the performance and reliability of building infrastructure systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and environmental controls.
- Develop and execute maintenance programs for building and industrial equipment to ensure operational uptime and safety.
- Support facility renovations, utility coordination, and capital projects through design review, oversight, and operational hand-off.
- Ensure compliance with safety codes, regulations, and standards, and support emergency response planning and incident investigations.
- Manage vendor relationships, oversee contractors, and develop technical standards and work scopes for facility-related services.
- Build and maintain asset management systems, including CMMS, for tracking work orders, asset performance, and maintenance metrics.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Mechanical, Electrical, Facilities, or related field or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in facilities engineering, building systems, or plant operations.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, electrical distribution, mechanical, and utility systems.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience with capital projects design review, construction execution, commissioning, and turnover into operations.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, or utility systems.
- Experience managing contractors and service vendors.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong documentation, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Comfort operating in high-ambiguity, fast-iteration environments such as engineering labs and industrial spaces, with the judgment to balance urgency, risk, and long-term reliability.
- Demonstrated ability to build systems standards, workflows, vendor expectations, and preventive maintenance (PM) strategy.
- Experience building or operating asset tracking maintenance systems for critical infrastructure or industrial equipment, including CMMS, asset registry, service planning, maintenance scheduling, and spares coordination.
