The role involves leading all external SEC reporting and technical accounting functions for a clean tech company, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, managing financial disclosures, and providing technical accounting expertise on complex transactions to support the company's growth and transparency.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the preparation, review, and submission of SEC filings ensuring compliance with regulations.
Manage the preparation of financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, earnings releases, and non-GAAP reconciliations.
Serve as the primary subject matter expert on US GAAP technical accounting matters and communicate positions on complex transactions.
Research, document, and communicate technical accounting positions on significant transactions and new accounting standards.
Assess and implement new accounting standards, develop accounting policies, and update the company's policy framework.
Provide technical accounting guidance to business partners on transactions and strategic initiatives.
Maintain and improve internal controls over financial reporting, including SOX 404 compliance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external auditors on control testing, deficiency remediation, and process improvements.
Lead, mentor, and develop staff supporting external reporting and technical accounting functions.
Support the consolidated close process and develop management reports and technical updates for leadership and audit committees.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
CPA certification required
Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong preference for a combination of Big 4 public accounting and public company industry experience
Deep expertise in US GAAP and SEC reporting rules and regulations, including Regulation S-X, Regulation S-K, and EDGAR filing requirements
Demonstrated experience authoring technical accounting memos on complex topics including ASC 606, ASC 842, ASC 350-360, ASC 805, ASC 718, and other areas
Experience with SEC reporting software, with preference for Workiva, and XBRL iXBRL tagging
Support experience for capital markets or other significant company transactions is a strong plus
SOX 404 experience, including design and documentation of internal controls over financial reporting
Strong organizational skills with a focus on accuracy, detail orientation, and the ability to produce high-quality work in tight timelines
Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, and to communicate complex technical accounting requirements to both technical and non-technical audiences
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to present to executive leadership and Audit Committees
