Job Description
The Corporate Counsel at Palmetto will serve as a key legal advisor supporting the company's commercial, governance, risk, and compliance functions, with responsibilities including drafting and negotiating contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing legal risks, and collaborating with various business teams to support growth and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and establish positive relationships with business partners to advise on legal issues throughout the business lifecycle
- Maintain and negotiate core agreements with customers, vendors, and key partners
- Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and contracts
- Oversee compliance with regulatory, licensing, and licensing matters
- Implement systems and processes to scale the legal team’s capabilities
- Assess legal compliance and provide practical legal advice to internal stakeholders
- Collaborate across functions to deliver legal guidance aligned with business objectives
- Manage consumer escalations and disputes, including litigation and arbitration
- Develop and deliver legal training and promote awareness of compliance and risk management
Requirements
- Juris doctorate from an accredited law school admitted to at least one state bar in the U.S.
- Five or more years of legal experience in regulated businesses, with in-house counsel experience highly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to learn on the job and develop in new areas of the law and drive new applications of existing laws to support innovation
- Motivated self-starter with a strong ownership mentality who creatively identifies and resolves issues
- Open to learning new aspects of in-house legal work and motivated by hands-on tasks
- Ability to prioritize and work with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced environment while delivering at a high level with a collaborative, customer service approach
- Exceptional degree of integrity, ethics, and trust, with a highly professional demeanor and the ability to maintain confidence
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
