Job Description
The Energy System Modeller will develop and utilize advanced tools and models to analyze and optimize power systems, supporting Octopus Energy's commercial decisions and efforts to shape sustainable energy systems worldwide.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and build tools to model energy systems and inform commercial decisions
- Analyze power system data to support energy system optimization and planning
- Utilize data platform technologies and programming languages to process and model energy data
Requirements
- Proven experience in energy system modelling or a related field, with a strong passion for understanding and changing the way power systems work.
- Ability to build and develop tools to inform commercial decisions and help shape the energy system for all participants in the UK and globally.
- Proficiency in Python programming language, with experience in designing, testing, and deploying data platform services.
- Experience with data lake platforms such as Databricks.
- Experience with data services and task orchestration using Kubernetes.
- Experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform.
- Experience developing data applications using Streamlit.
- Experience with job scheduling and tracking using Airflow.
- Experience with continuous deployment processes using Circle CI.
- Experience working with data storage formats such as Parquet and Delta files on S3.
- Experience with data processing using Spark.
- Experience with data modelling using DBT.
- Experience with analytics using SparkSQL.
- Ability to work with a variety of data processing and analytics tools in a collaborative environment.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices for designing, testing, and deploying data platform services.
