The Director of Public Affairs will lead Octopus Energy's engagement with EU policymakers in Brussels, shaping energy and climate policies to support low-carbon solutions, building strategic relationships, and advocating for the company's vision in the context of the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
Understand and monitor developments across the EU Commission, Parliament, and Council relevant to energy and climate policy.
Identify key policy issues and determine where the company's voice and proof points are most needed.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with policymakers, stakeholders, and industry partners.
Communicate the company's vision and story to influence policy discussions and decisions.
Guide the company into relevant policy forums and decision-making spaces at appropriate times.
Requirements
A strong understanding of the EU energy and climate landscape relevant to the business.
Experience working in public affairs, policy engagement, or a related field at a professional level.
Ability to understand and analyze developments across the European Commission, Parliament, and Council.
Experience in building strategic relationships and engaging with senior stakeholders in the EU policy environment.
Proven ability to identify policy issues that matter most for the business and determine where the company's voice and proof points are most needed.
Excellent communication skills to tell the Octopus story and articulate the company's vision for the future.
Experience working with or within EU institutions, including understanding of their processes and decision-making mechanisms.
Demonstrated ability to guide an organization into the right policy forums and engage at the appropriate levels of influence.
Experience working with or supporting multiple EU-based businesses and drawing senior engagement from across a corporate group.
Ability to work independently as a high-impact, single-person role with minimal supervision.
Experience in the energy transition sector, with technical expertise or familiarity with topics such as smart grids, smart tariffs, demand side flexibility, EV public charging, electric heating, renewable development, and market and regulatory design.
Proven track record of engaging in policy advocacy or public affairs related to energy, climate, or related sectors.
Experience in developing and executing strategic public affairs plans aligned with business objectives.
