Job Description

The role involves testing, maintaining, and improving the hardware systems of autonomous vehicles, including electrical and mechanical components, troubleshooting issues, and supporting vehicle integration within a software environment to ensure reliable vehicle autonomy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with testing teams, component owners, and customers to execute hardware test validation plans
  • Maintain and improve the reliability of vehicle autonomy systems, including electrical and mechanical components
  • Coordinate tools and resources for debugging and resolving hardware issues
  • Prepare reports and documentation to inform hardware design improvements and vehicle integration
  • Support remote operation sites and provide technical troubleshooting guidance
  • Understand and implement advanced fault detection and reporting schemes in automotive systems

Requirements

  • Experience troubleshooting electrical systems or vehicles, preferably with exposure to CAN or automotive Ethernet networks.
  • Familiarity with vehicle electrical architecture, controlling mechanisms, and the integration process.
  • Ability to interpret wiring harness diagrams, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings in relation to vehicle networks such as CAN and Ethernet and their interaction with other automotive systems.
  • 3 years experience in test planning and experimental design, especially designing for safety and repeatability.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or related field including Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electrical Engineering (EE), Computer Science (CS), Robotics, Controls, Aerospace, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with vehicle protocols or vehicle harness design.
  • Proficiency in automation test frameworks.
  • Understanding of autonomous driving vehicles, infrastructure, and operations.
  • Ability to collaborate with vehicle testing teams, component owners, and customers to execute hardware test validation plans.
  • Ability to maintain and improve the reliability of current vehicle autonomy systems, including electrical and mechanical aspects of autonomous sensing and actuation platforms and the base vehicle.
  • Ability to coordinate tools and resources needed for debugging and issue resolution, including understanding the relationship between vehicle components and their interaction on communication networks.
  • Ability to prepare reports and documentation to guide future hardware design improvements, with emphasis on vehicle integration within a software environment.
  • Support for remote operation sites and providing technical guidance for troubleshooting efforts.
  • Understanding advanced fault detection and reporting schemes in the automotive domain.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering, product, and other teams.
