Job Description
A Software Engineer specializing in Fault Response Verification at Nuro, responsible for developing validation tools, defining fault response requirements, and stress testing autonomous driving software to ensure safety and reliability in autonomous vehicle deployments.
Key Responsibilities
- Define system-level behavior requirements for fault response in autonomous driving systems.
- Develop metrics and validation tools to assess fault response and system performance.
- Conduct system-level stress testing and validation of autonomous software modules for fail-operational capabilities.
- Analyze failure modes and inter-dependencies within the autonomy architecture to inform fault response strategies.
- Interpret simulation and testing data to evaluate safety and mission capabilities during faults.
- Collaborate with development teams to extract high-impact performance indicators and develop automated evaluation tooling.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of technical work experience in robotics software or a relevant area.
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree candidate in Computer Science, Math, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related field.
- Strong programming and algorithmic problem solving skills in Python or C/C++.
- Technically fluent and experienced working in a team with strong software engineering practices.
- Highly collaborative with strong abilities to think and communicate analytically and effectively.
- Self-starter and fast learner with a passion for picking up new skills and approaching unstructured problems from first principles.
- Experience in software development in task level or behavior level robotics planning.
- Experience developing ML-based or heuristic-based evaluation methods to assess system performance.
- Experience analyzing and managing FDIR (Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery) for the software stack on semi-autonomous or autonomous vehicles or equipment.
- Experience defining requirements using data-driven and first-principle techniques.
- Experience implementing test coverage for requirements.
- Experience with adaptive stress testing or probabilistic software diagnostics.
