A systems engineer responsible for developing, integrating, and validating sensors and hardware components for autonomous driving systems, ensuring safety, reliability, and performance in a self-driving technology company.
Key Responsibilities
Define system-level requirements, architecture, and integration strategies for autonomy sensors (LiDAR, cameras, radar, IMU).
Drive safety and performance characterization of autonomy sensors through hazard assessments and safety analyses.
Collaborate with hardware teams on sensor selection, characterization, and safety methodology development.
Partner with perception and localization software teams to define interfaces, performance metrics, and validation strategies.
Support safety case development by providing evidence and conducting residual risk assessments for sensors.
Establish test coverage requirements to ensure system safety and performance.
Perform root cause analysis during integration and testing to resolve complex issues.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to cross-functional teams.
Requirements
Strong understanding of autonomy sensors LiDAR, camera, radar, IMU including the impact of sensors on localization or perception evaluation
Proven hands-on experience in systems engineering for complex hardware software systems
Demonstrated experience on one or more of Architecture design, integration, or validation of the Autonomy Platform
Understanding of vehicle systems and their interaction with the autonomy stack
Demonstrated experience working on safety-critical systems including at least one of HARA, STPA, FMEA, FTA, safety concept development
Ability to read code in C and write code in Python for analysis, tooling, and test automation
Experience with requirements definition and management tools such as Jama
Experience with risk assessment methodologies and quantification
Experience performing hazard assessments, deriving requirements, and conducting risk and safety analyses related to autonomy sensors
Experience supporting claims and evidence of the overall Safety Case pertaining to sensors and residual risk assessment
Experience defining and quantifying test coverage requirements to ensure system performance and safety
Experience performing root cause analysis for complex cross-functional issues during integration and testing, and driving resolution
Technical leadership and guidance skills to support cross-functional teams, including mentoring junior engineers

Compensation/salary range between $176,400 and $264,600 depending on experience, qualifications, education, location, and skills
