Key Responsibilities
- Manage system goals, capabilities, and safety claims for Autonomy and Remote Assistance.
- Identify, document, and communicate safety risks and claims related to autonomous systems.
- Design experiments and perform trade studies to evaluate safety solutions and architecture options.
- Support system design and architecture by collaborating with infrastructure and autonomy engineers.
- Drive validation strategies for remote assistance systems and communicate design gaps and residual risks.
Requirements
- 5 years of technical work experience in a relevant area, of which 3 years should be in robotics software
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or Doctoral Degree in Computer Science, Math, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or related field
- Deep understanding of how robotic systems work and ability to leverage this knowledge to build requirements and tests for autonomous vehicles
- Experience working in a safety-critical industry such as robotics, automotive, aviation aerospace, or medical devices for a complex robotic system, specifically when there is a human in the loop
- Working knowledge of and ability to apply systems engineering concepts of requirements, verification, and validation
- Hands-on experience with STPA (System-Theoretic Process Analysis) and ISO 21448 (Safety of the Intended Functionality)
- Strong Python programming skills and algorithmic problem-solving skills
- Ability to write, manage, and communicate behavioral requirements for the system, applicable subsystems, and operations
- Ability to support the safety case by identifying, documenting, and communicating Autonomy safety claims and decomposed system requirements
- Experience designing experiments and performing trade studies to assess adequacy and cost of technical solutions for safety claims, including autonomy architecture, mitigations, and end-to-end testing
- Experience supporting the design and architecture of remote assistance systems, considering constraints from infrastructure, autonomy, operator performance, and validation testability
- Ability to drive validation strategy for remote assistance, delegating tasks to software engineering, hardware engineering, and operations teams as appropriate
