Job Description
The Senior Staff Software Engineer will develop and validate fault detection and handling architectures for autonomous driving systems, ensuring system safety and reliability through system-level analysis, testing, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify faults within the autonomous software stack and refine fault handling criteria
- Design fault and fail-operational architecture for autonomous systems
- Implement test methodologies for verification, validation, and stress testing of autonomy software
- Develop tools and frameworks to inject faults and interpret results from testing and simulation
- Collaborate with development teams to extract metrics and performance indicators for system readiness and safety
Requirements
- At least 3 years of technical work experience in robotics software or a relevant area.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree candidate in Computer Science, Math, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related field.
- Strong programming and algorithmic problem solving skills in C and C++.
- Experience working in a team with strong software engineering practices.
- Highly collaborative with strong abilities to think and communicate analytically and effectively.
- Self-starter and fast learner with a passion for acquiring new skills and approaching unstructured problems from first principles.
- At least 3 years of experience in multiple of the following areas: software development in robotics perception, Linux or Unix computer systems engineering including communication protocols, designing fault-tolerant systems, and atomicity and coordination of concurrent activities for complex autonomous software.
- Experience analyzing and managing Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery (FDIR) for the software stack on semi-autonomous or autonomous vehicles or equipment.
- Experience defining requirements using data-driven and first-principle techniques.
- Experience implementing test coverage for faults.
- Experience identifying emergent behavior in safety-critical complex systems, including interactions between modules.
- Experience with end-to-end functional decomposition, defining physical and logical architectures, allocating functionality, and conducting reliability analysis of safety-critical complex systems via STPA or other hazard analysis techniques.
- Experience with adaptive stress testing or probabilistic software diagnostics.
