Job Description
A Robotics and Reliability Engineer responsible for diagnosing, resolving, and proactively improving the reliability of autonomous vehicle systems, supporting fleet operations, and leading technical projects to enhance system performance and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and resolve on-site technical issues related to autonomous vehicle systems
- Support fleet operations by ensuring hardware and software functionality during testing and missions
- Analyze software issues to identify causes, themes, and corrective actions
- Develop monitoring, auditing, and reporting systems for fleet reliability and security
- Lead technical projects to improve diagnosis, troubleshooting, and system resilience
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify risks and implement solutions
- Create data visualizations to track problem trends and inform decision-making
- Mentor team members and share knowledge to enhance problem-solving capabilities
Requirements
- BS, MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related technical field
- Experience building tools for automating and troubleshooting Linux systems
- Experience in an on-call support rotation
- Experience monitoring and securing server infrastructure at scale
- Keen systematic analysis and problem-solving skills, a passion for understanding and debugging complex systems
- Strong ability to reverse engineer unexpected behaviors to source code triggers
- Coding proficiency, preferably in C, C++, Python, Golang, and/or Bash
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, able to identify problems and take initiative to fix them
- Participate in on-call support rotation to diagnose and mitigate software issues with Nuro’s vehicle fleet
- Support operations team during autonomous vehicle testing and customer-facing missions, ensuring software and hardware are operating properly
- Analyze software issues for contributing factors, themes, and corrective actions, and document results to share learnings
- Develop monitoring, auditing, and reporting systems and workflows for secure and reliable fleet operations using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, GCP, Terraform, Kubernetes
- Propose, design, review, execute, and lead technical projects for the Robotics Reliability Engineering team
- Build tools and automation to improve diagnosis and troubleshooting capabilities
- Collaborate with hardware, performance, connectivity, security, embedded software, and other technical teams to identify cross-team risks and solutions
