Job Description
This role involves developing and integrating autonomous vehicle hardware systems, including designing components, working with internal and external teams, and supporting vehicle prototypes from concept to production in a self-driving technology company.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the engineering development, design, and integration of autonomous vehicle hardware components and systems.
- Create and manage technical specifications, targets, architecture, and drawings for AV hardware.
- Collaborate with internal teams, OEM partners, and suppliers on system feasibility, design, and data exchange.
- Support manufacturing processes for component production and vehicle assembly.
- Design and execute validation plans in collaboration with CAE and test teams.
- Develop prototypes, support vehicle builds, and troubleshoot issues to optimize solutions.
- Drive improvements in part quality, cost efficiency, and manufacturing processes.
- Communicate technical decisions, development progress, and issues to management.
Requirements
- Own the engineering specification, targets, architecture, design, development, schedule, and release of AV hardware and integration components, including 3D CAD packages and drawings.
- Work closely with Industrial Design (ID) to generate creative ideas and conduct feasibility studies resulting in an aesthetic and functional design.
- Assist the efforts of AV hardware engineering teams at OEM partners, and with the PLM team, manage CAD and data exchange with OEM and supplier partners.
- Work closely with manufacturing as required to bring up production of components.
- Work closely with CAE and test teams to design and execute validation plans.
- Support the development and bring-up of bucks, mules, and prototypes, support vehicle builds, identify issues, and work to achieve the best solutions.
- Drive part quality improvements, cost reductions, and efficiency improvements.
- Communicate technical decisions, development plans, and ongoing issues to management.
- Role may require up to quarter-time travel domestically and internationally.
