Job Description
The role involves leading safety assurance for autonomous driving systems, including AI components, by developing safety claims, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring compliance with safety standards to support the deployment of self-driving vehicles.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and author safety claims in the ADS safety case for onboard and offboard software, including AI components.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to develop system requirements, AI architecture, and safety evidence.
- Generate and decompose safety claims, delegate to teams, and manage the quality of claims and evidence.
- Develop counter-arguments to safety claims and ensure they are addressed or mitigated.
- Review evaluation and validation evidence to support safety claims and work with test teams.
- Track safety performance indicators and monitor safety metrics during L4 deployment.
- Escalate technical and safety risks, identify work gaps, and propose mitigation strategies.
- Support safety research, apply relevant safety standards, and incorporate best practices.
Requirements
- 5 years of technical work experience in a relevant area, of which 3 years should be in robotics software.
- Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, or Doctoral Degree in Computer Science, Math, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or related field.
- Working knowledge of and ability to apply systems engineering concepts of requirements, verification, and validation, with a deep understanding of how robotic systems work.
- Experience working in a safety-critical industry such as robotics, automotive, aviation aerospace, or medical devices for a complex robotic system.
- Hands-on experience with ISO 21448 and familiarity with ISO 8800.
- Ability to understand the ADS design, interfaces, and technical capabilities of the system to manage safety claims.
- Experience in generating atomic safety claims through claim decomposition and managing quality of delegated claims.
- Experience in generating counter-arguments and challenges to safety claims, and ensuring they are addressed or mitigated.
- Experience reviewing and assessing evidence from evaluation and validation activities as arguments for safety case claims, working closely with VV test teams.
- Ability to develop processes for and coordinate the tracking of safety performance indicators from various Systems Engineering and Software Evaluation teams.
- Experience in escalating functional and technical risks, identifying missing work items such as test gaps, ADS design risks, and AI architecture insufficiencies, and proposing mitigations to senior leadership.
- Support safety research and identify appropriate technical standards and best practices to support the safety case, applying them effectively.
