Job Description
The Director of Operations and Maintenance at NineDot Energy is responsible for overseeing the efficient and reliable operation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), developing strategies for system performance, managing maintenance, and coordinating with vendors and stakeholders to ensure safety, compliance, and optimal energy storage performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to ensure optimal performance and safety compliance.
- Develop and implement data-driven strategies for system performance, predictive maintenance, and control system analytics.
- Manage troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair activities to maintain system reliability and address operational issues.
- Coordinate with vendors and control system providers for software updates, performance improvements, and technical support.
- Monitor and analyze operational data to identify optimization opportunities and improve system efficiency.
- Lead the development and execution of emergency response plans for critical situations and coordinate responses during emergencies.
- Build and manage a Network Operations Center (NOC) for real-time monitoring and control of BESS operations.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and contractual requirements related to energy storage operations.
- Collaborate with technical teams to implement advanced control strategies and energy management techniques.
- Coordinate with internal teams, external partners, and authorities for operational support and project execution.
Requirements
- 12 years of proven operations and/or maintenance experience of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems, including at least 3 years managing renewable energy plants, with a preference for experience managing battery energy storage systems.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with demonstrated ability to lead and motivate operations teams, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
- In-depth understanding of battery technologies, energy storage systems, power electronics, and grid integration.
- Proven knowledge of various battery chemistries such as lithium-ion and flow batteries, and their applications.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders including EPCs and subvendors.
- Knowledge of industry standards, OSHA regulations, and environmental regulations relevant to energy storage operations.
- Knowledge of energy markets and market procedures.
- Experience with troubleshooting SCADA systems and site operations, and problem solving with local utilities.
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to safety processes and procedures.
- Unrestricted driver’s license in good standing.
- Ability to work on weekends and off shifts as required.
- Ability to work in varying climates as required.
- Ability to travel to and from job sites as assigned.
- Physical ability to walk, climb, push, pull, and lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and evolving schedules.
- Excellent proficiency with productivity tools such as Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Motivated self-starter with goal-oriented mindset and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to multi-task, work independently, and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and communicate effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
