Job Description
The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for the site development, design, and technical support of solar energy projects, including permitting, land-use planning, and construction oversight, to support Nexamp's renewable energy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support throughout the project life cycle, including development, engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance.
- Conduct site due diligence and review permit plans to identify risks and optimize site layout.
- Review and critique civil engineering site designs, including drawings, stormwater management, erosion control, and technical specifications.
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines such as electrical, structural, and geotechnical teams.
- Develop internal design standards and identify process improvements.
- Support training of engineering staff and research new products.
- Perform grading design, foundation tolerance analysis, and site layout for tracker projects.
- Coordinate with construction project managers for project handoff and conduct site inspections.
- Respond to RFIs and field issues, ensuring compliance with permits and construction documents.
- Manage relationships with third-party engineering consultants and oversee project RFPs, negotiations, and invoicing.
Requirements
- Seven (7) years of civil engineering and land development design experience.
- Experience in federal, state, and local permitting processes and construction administration.
- Proficiency with state Stormwater Management policies and guidelines.
- Experience in site grading and earthwork analyses.
- Strong written and oral technical communication skills.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and HydroCAD software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Ability to perform stormwater design, grading, and sedimentation and erosion control measures.
- Ability to conduct site development and design of solar array and battery storage projects, including site layout, access roadway layouts, and topographical considerations.
- Experience reviewing and critiquing civil engineering site design, including construction drawings, stormwater management reports, erosion and sediment control plans, construction management plans, design details, and technical specifications.
- Experience in project development activities such as conducting due diligence reviews of potential sites and project acquisitions to identify fatal flaws and mitigate design risks.
- Ability to provide technical support throughout the entire project life cycle, including development, engineering, procurement, estimation, construction, and maintenance.
- Experience supporting cost estimating and providing value engineering recommendations to drive cost reduction while maintaining standards for code compliance and industry best practices.
- Experience coordinating with construction Project Managers to facilitate handoff from engineering to construction, including conducting site field visits and inspections, responding to RFIs and urgent field issues, and ensuring compliance with permits and construction documents.
- Experience managing relationships with third-party engineering consultants responsible for civil engineering, surveying, construction, and landscape architecture design products.
- Ability to develop internal design standards and identify process improvements.
- Strong multi-tasking, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders, including building strong relationships and instilling trust and loyalty.
- Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of Nexamp’s operations and apply that knowledge to inform business decisions.
- Willingness to travel up to 10%.
