Job Description
The Accounting Manager will oversee financial reporting, month-end close processes, and team management within Nexamp's Asset Management division, supporting sustainable energy projects and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The role involves collaboration across departments, process improvement initiatives, and contributing to the company's mission of building a clean energy future.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes for corporate and project entities, including approving journal entries and preparing financial statements.
- Manage and oversee a team of staff and senior accountants, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluation.
- Assist in creating and maintaining annual budgets and monitor budget-to-actuals for all projects.
- Lead ERP system improvement projects by collaborating with third-party consultants and other departments.
- Design and implement accounting processes for new business operations in accordance with relevant accounting principles.
- Supervise invoice creation, deposits, collections, and report KPIs to management in collaboration with the Asset Management department.
- Coordinate with auditors during project and consolidated audits, including preparing documentation and supporting financial disclosures.
Requirements
- 3-4 years of Public Accounting experience or 5-6 years of private accounting experience preferred.
- Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the ability to do research to find solutions for accounting issues.
- Experience with accounting systems, with NetSuite strongly preferred.
- Strict attention to detail, ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Ability to think critically, be proactive, and problem solve.
- Strong Microsoft Office and overall computer skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the accounting team, executive management, and all departments across the organization.
- Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond the organization.
- Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization.
- Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
- Experience managing or supervising a team of staff and senior accountants, including hiring, onboarding, cross-training, overseeing day-to-day activities, and evaluating performances.
- Ability to drive the monthly, quarterly, and annual close of the corporate and project companies, including approving journal entries, maintaining monthly reconciliations, preparing financial statements (balance sheet, P&L, equity statement, cash flow statement), and performing quarterly and annual covenant calculations.
- Experience assisting in creating annual budgets and maintaining budget-to-actuals for all projects on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Experience leading projects for ERP improvements working with third-party consultants and other departments to scale processes and improve efficiency.
- Experience designing and implementing processes for new business operations considering relevant accounting principles and guidance.
- Experience working closely with Asset Management departments supervising invoice creation, deposits, collections, and reporting KPIs to management.
- Experience working with audit seniors, managers, and partners for project and consolidated audits, including completing PBC lists, providing explanations and supporting documentation for audit testing, and assisting with the preparation of financials and footnotes.
