Job Description

The Electrical Performance Engineer at Nexamp is responsible for analyzing, optimizing, and ensuring the reliability and performance of solar PV and BESS assets, diagnosing complex electrical issues, and collaborating across teams to improve system design and operation in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Improve reliability, availability, and performance of solar PV and BESS assets through electrical engineering analysis
  • Perform root-cause failure analysis and diagnose complex issues across electrical systems
  • Identify systemic risks, validate corrective actions, and recommend solutions to reduce downtime and extend asset life
  • Optimize control schemes and operating strategies based on field data and performance analysis
  • Manage plant protection, controls, and compliance by reviewing and coordinating protection settings and utility approvals
  • Engage with utilities to resolve grid-interaction issues and ensure interconnection compliance
  • Evaluate and optimize protection schemes, relay coordination, and inverter control functions to enhance system reliability
  • Develop and improve design standards, protection philosophies, and fleet consistency in collaboration with engineering teams
  • Analyze inverter logs, relay events, and waveform data to conduct root-cause investigations and recommend corrective actions
  • Refine fleet monitoring and diagnostics strategies to improve incident response and reduce false alerts
  • Create analytical models and diagnostic frameworks to identify constraints and opportunities for performance improvement
  • Represent Performance Engineering in cross-functional initiatives and provide feedback on design and procurement decisions

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years of electrical engineering experience
  • 2 years of experience in solar and protection relays breakers, reclosers, power logic controllers, etc.
  • Professional Engineer in Electrical Engineering preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify the root causes of problems, and present creative solutions
  • Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry
