Job Description
The Category Manager at Nexamp is responsible for developing and executing strategic sourcing and supplier management for the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) category, collaborating cross-functionally to optimize supply chain performance, mitigate risks, and support the company's clean energy mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement category strategies for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
- Identify sourcing opportunities, cost-saving initiatives, and optimize supplier performance.
- Generate reports on category performance, market insights, and procurement forecasts.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, develop contingency plans.
- Conduct market research on supplier capabilities, market trends, and risks.
- Identify and evaluate new technologies relevant to the category.
- Maintain knowledge of policies impacting the category.
- Develop and rationalize the supplier base, including onboarding new suppliers and managing RFP processes.
- Manage supplier relationships to ensure quality, manufacturing, logistics, and continuity of supply.
- Continuously monitor and manage supplier performance through scorecards and reviews.
Requirements
- University degree in a relevant field; Supply Chain or Engineering degrees are a plus; MBA is a plus.
- At least 3 years of experience in the solar industry with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) experience or familiarity.
- At least 5 years of experience in supplier management, category management, technical program management, or consulting.
- Proven ability to develop procurement and supply chain strategies and effectively communicate recommendations to senior management.
- Experience working closely with engineers and other technical teams, with a deep understanding of technical requirements and product development cycles.
- Proficient in ERP systems such as SAP and Oracle, with experience managing projects aligned with strategic procurement goals.
- Experience in developing and managing KPIs and performance metrics working with complicated data sets.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
- Experience in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
- Ability to ask appropriate questions and conduct market research to analyze supplier capabilities, market trends, and risks.
- Ability to identify sourcing opportunities, cost-saving initiatives, and strategies to optimize supplier performance across assigned categories.
- Experience in leading RFP processes, negotiating agreements, and establishing compliance monitoring of suppliers.
- Experience in managing supplier relationships strategically to ensure technical, manufacturing, quality, product support, and logistics needs are met.
- Experience in managing supplier performance through supplier scorecards and quarterly business reviews, including attending supplier visits, meetings, and industry trade shows or conferences.
- Ability to develop and implement category strategies aligned with overall business goals.
- Ability to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities within the supply chain, develop mitigation strategies, and establish contingency plans.
- Experience conducting market research and analyzing supplier capabilities, market trends, and risks.
- Knowledge of current and potential upcoming policies as they pertain to the category.
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment based out of Boston or Chicago offices.
- Strong presentation skills to communicate procurement strategies and performance reports effectively to senior management.
