Job Description
The position involves leading state-level campaigns in Michigan to transform industrial practices for climate justice, community benefit, and worker rights, through strategic advocacy, coalition-building, policy development, and program management.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify high-impact policy and campaign opportunities in Michigan.
- Develop and execute state-level campaign strategies rooted in policy and power analysis.
- Build and maintain relationships with key allies, stakeholders, and coalitions.
- Support existing efforts that promote jobs, justice, and climate goals in the industrial sector.
- Lead fundraising initiatives to grow the state program and team.
- Represent Industrious Labs in coalition spaces, media, and with public officials and funders.
- Develop policy expertise in sectors like steel, cement, industrial heat, climate, labor, and air quality.
Requirements
- 10-15 years of experience with increasing responsibility leading teams and driving shared goals.
- Background in policy development, organizing, or leadership within advocacy or movement spaces.
- Experience designing policy campaigns and using tools like power mapping, strategy charts, or narrative development.
- Strong familiarity with how state and local agencies and venues function.
- A relationship-builder with ties to grassroots groups, labor, environmental justice communities, policymakers, and other key players in Michigan.
- Proven track record of delivering policy wins and moving ideas from strategy through implementation.
- Strong project management skills and the skills to juggle priorities.
- Experience managing staff and developing teams.
- Experience working with and tailoring strategies to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including labor, community organizations, businesses and associations, climate groups, and more.
- Comfortable in a matrixed environment and skilled at cross-functional collaboration.
- Ability to lead big work and maintain a sense of humor, with a scrappy and resourceful mindset, and a bias toward action.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with experience building initiatives or organizations and thriving in fast-growing environments.
