Job Description

The Deputy Director will lead a campaign to develop and promote a green fertilizer industry in California, focusing on policy advocacy, coalition building, industry assessment, and project implementation to support climate, justice, and economic goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of a campaign to promote green fertilizer industry in California.
  • Build and maintain a coalition of labor, community, farmers, and industry stakeholders aligned with campaign goals.
  • Assess the fertilizer industry landscape, identify key players and gaps, and engage industry leaders and partners.
  • Develop policy platforms and advocate for policies to phase out fossil-based fertilizers, including engaging with government officials.
  • Research the economic and environmental aspects of green fertilizer, including cost structures, job creation, and industry risks.
  • Coordinate with colleagues and external consultants to understand industry economics and translate interest into momentum.
  • Manage project activities, including pilot projects and policy development, ensuring alignment with campaign objectives.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of increasing responsibility in the field, with a proven campaigning and coalition-building track record.
  • Background in policy development, organizing, or leadership within advocacy or movement spaces.
  • Experience designing policy campaigns and using tools like power mapping, strategy charts, and narrative development.
  • Strong familiarity with how state and local agencies and venues function.
  • Demonstrated relationship-building, including with grassroots groups, labor, environmental justice organizations, policymakers, and other key players in California.
  • Proven track record of delivering policy wins and moving ideas from strategy through implementation.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to juggle multiple conflicting priorities.
  • Cultural competency and emotional intelligence, demonstrated by experience leading multicultural teams and building alignment across divergent viewpoints.
  • Deep alignment with Industrious Labs' mission, values, and goals.
  • Highly collaborative work style and ability to serve as a peer and thought partner.
  • Commitment to learning, curiosity, and personal growth.
  • Strong communication skills able to break down complex issues into clear strategies and decisions.

  • Eligibility to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
