Job Description
The role involves serving as the lead technical contact for US OEM customers on lithium-ion battery cell development, providing technical leadership, designing solutions, and supporting validation, manufacturing, and quality activities to ensure optimal cell performance and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead technical contact for US OEM customers on battery cell topics.
- Provide technical leadership in customer discussions on cell design, performance, safety, and manufacturability.
- Represent Gotion's cell technology capabilities, roadmap, and development status to customers.
- Build and maintain relationships with OEM technical teams.
- Lead technical reviews and workshops from RFI/RFQ to mass production.
- Translate customer system-level requirements into cell design inputs and collaborate with design teams.
- Develop and propose technical solutions to meet customer requirements.
- Align with customers on cell requirements, specifications, and validation plans.
- Develop test methodologies for evaluating cell and pack performance for safety, performance, and durability.
- Review and interpret test data, identify risks, and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Support cell development, manufacturing, and post-launch improvements.
- Participate in customer-facing quality and industrialization activities, including APQP, PPAP, and audits.
- Collaborate with design and process engineers on FMEA development and reviews.
- Work with cross-functional teams to advance cell technology, applications, and intellectual property.
Requirements
- MS degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science with at least 7 years of experience involving hands-on testing of lithium-ion batteries
- Experience in Li-ion battery cell development and validation
- Experience in analysis using dQdV and good knowledge about GITT, EIS, CV, PITT techniques
- Familiarity with cell manufacturing processes including electrode fabrication, assembly, formation, and aging
- Strong understanding of cell chemistry, electrochemical performance, and degradation mechanisms
- Ability to work effectively with global teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%
- Ability to translate customer application system-level requirements into cell design inputs and develop technical solutions to meet these requirements
- Experience in developing FMEA, supporting APQP, PPAP, and customer audits
- Ability to review and interpret cell test data, draw technical conclusions, identify risks, and drive root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Experience supporting customer-facing quality and industrialization activities, including APQP, PPAP, and audits
- Experience collaborating with cell designers and process engineers to develop DFMEA and PFMEA, and coordinate FMEA reviews with customers
