Job Description
The Sr. Staff Systems Engineer at Gatik is responsible for overseeing verification, validation, and systems engineering of autonomous vehicles, ensuring safety, performance, and integration of hardware and software components in a complex, safety-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and implement model-based system engineering methodologies for requirements management.
- Allocate and cascade functional and performance requirements across stakeholders and system levels.
- Integrate architecture changes and component revisions to ensure system functionality.
- Write and execute system integration test cases at various abstraction levels, including Hardware in Loop (HiL) and Vehicle in Loop (ViL).
- Manage requirements throughout the V-cycle, ensuring traceability across product, design, hardware, and software teams.
- Collaborate with hardware, software teams, and external vendors to meet requirements and achieve desired functionality.
- Perform hands-on vehicle system bring-up, data collection, and logging for autonomous vehicle components.
- Build, implement, and run test benches to evaluate hardware-software integration and identify issues.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software issues, driving debugging to closure.
- Inform system design decisions based on industry standards and best practices.
- Triage and investigate system software bugs and defects, escalating issues as needed.
- Establish and own automation of manual tests, defining KPIs and quality benchmarks.
- Coordinate with internal teams and vendors to ensure timely delivery of high-quality work products.
Requirements
- Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Reliability, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience writing and managing requirements for complex systems with both hardware and software components.
- Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering tools such as Jama, SysML, ANSYS Medini, DOORS, etc.
- Deep technical experience with complex, safety-critical systems following systems engineering best practices.
- Hands-on experience with the latest autonomous vehicle (AV) technologies and debugging complex systems involving sensors, compute, networking, and vehicle subsystems.
- Experience designing and deploying test setups on the bench, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), and/or the vehicle.
- Ability to communicate effectively with subject matter experts to derive and capture requirements.
- Excellent organizational skills to facilitate cross-disciplinary team collaboration, communication, and delivery.
- Hands-on experience applying systems standards such as IEEE 29148, ISO 15288, 42010, IEC 24748, and functional safety standards including IEC 61508, ISO 26262, DO178, or similar, as well as behavioral standards like ISO 21448 or similar.
- Experience validating systems in accordance with industry standards and best practices for performance and safety, such as ISO, IEC, FMVSS, SAE, AVSC, UL, etc.
- Experience performing hazard analysis using methods such as System Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Hazard and Operability Analysis (HAZOP), or Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA).
- Deep understanding of vehicle system architectures and autonomous systems that meet world-leading AV standards.
- Relevant certifications in Functional Safety (FuSa), Safety of the Intended Functionality (SOTIF), Cybersecurity (CySe), Systems Engineering, or equivalent.
Benefits & Perks
Salary range: $180,000 - $250,000
