Job Description
The position involves supporting the U.S. EPA's National Wetland Condition Assessment by conducting field sampling of wetlands in remote locations, requiring skills in ecology, botany, soil science, or hydrology, and includes training, travel, and working on a 7-day on, 7-day off schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field sampling of wetlands in Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona according to EPA protocols.
- Attend and complete EPA-led training on project protocols, safety, plant identification, and data quality assurance.
- Operate in remote locations with limited services, managing long work hours and travel logistics.
- Collaborate with team members to collect data on wetland ecology, soil, and vegetation.
- Ensure accurate data collection and documentation during field activities.
Requirements
- The individual must attend an EPA-led NWCA training course on project protocols and associated methodology prior to field sampling, with ERG paying for travel and attendance.
- All crew members must participate in additional hands-on training throughout the season in relevant areas including field safety, plant identification, and data QA/QC.
- The position requires operating in remote locations with limited services and intermittent cell coverage, and working typical field days of 10 to 12 hours depending on weather, site access, and travel time.
- The candidate must be highly motivated with the skills to prioritize, perform, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- The candidate must have experience or strong interest in wetland ecology, botany, soil science, hydrology, or natural resource management.
- The candidate must be available to start around April 1, 2026, with an anticipated end date in mid-July, and approximately 1 week of travel in August and September, with potential extension into late September based on project need and performance.
- The candidate must be willing to support field sampling in Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona, with trips beginning and ending in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- The candidate must be able to work on a 7 days on, 7 days off field schedule for the duration of the season.
- The candidate must be able to work in conditions that may include long hours (10-12 hours per day), in remote locations, with limited services and intermittent cell coverage.
- The candidate must be able to perform physically demanding tasks associated with field sampling activities, including working in potentially challenging environmental conditions.
